1. Hi, my name is Joey McGovern (obviously). I am in the Family DNP program, just starting my third semester. I have lived in Provo since I was 5, and love it here. I like to rock climb, ice climb, backpack, camp, and ski, all of which are found in abundance here. I am also on the volunteer Utah County Search and Rescue team.
2. I think that it is important for me to know about information management because it will be an important part of my practice after I graduate. Seeing patients will create a large volume of data that will will need to be interpreted and utilized efficiently. Being able to access and utilize lab values, radiology reports, and other data will help me to provide a high standard of care. This area is also important for billing purposes, as we have to be able to code data correctly in order to be reimbursed.
3. I don't know what is happening related to IT currently for Nurse Practitioners. However, I currently work in an ICU which uses computer charting and a computer based system for medication administration. All of our assessments, vital signs, plan of care updates, and evaluations are charted on the computer. We can access lab values, radiology reports, transcribed physician progress notes and a myriad of other data. We are also constantly improving on our system. I have worked there for 4 years and we in that time we have completely revamped our system 3 times.
